Computer science is not about machines, in the same way that astronomy is not about telescopes. There is an essential unity of mathematics and computer science -- Mike Fellows (often attributed to Dijkstra, but first published by Fellows in 1991 in "Computer SCIENCE and Mathematics in the Elementary Schools")
I've created a video (as you may know already), and have entered it in the Video competition for SIGCSE 2010. Here it is: Relational Graphs: What are they?. Check it out.
It was designed originally as a motivator for some graph theory lessons I will be doing in a couple of Grade Six Math classes soon. Hopefully it will get accepted at SIGCSE too!
Very impressive video, Sarah. Sorry I didn't catch your earlier versions to give you feedback -- have been behind on my fun reading. I'll be interested to hear how it goes over in the classroom. I think this new generation's learning style is very oriented towards video and music.
